The Vexed Versa's music has been described as a combination of chaotic thoughts and seamless delivery resonating with the passion of any disappointed youth on a mission. If you intentionally head north of Cairns along a lonely, washed out road, you will eventually reach a place that mixes the beauty of untouched rainforest kissing crystal blue beaches with the ugliness of silent, small town boredom. Vexed was one of four young artists (including Rydakule, Marvel and Buttah the verbal wordsmith), known collectively as The Solemn Prophets, who were starved of their passion in the hip-hop deprived coastal community of Cooktown. Each one of them has now moved a little further down the coast in order to chase their dream and breathe life into the next generation of North Queensland hip hop. Spending many of their younger days attempting to skate dirt roads, their hopes for a golden ray of skateboarding sunshine were crushed by the local council who then raised money for a "community skate park" only to install a rough slab of uneven cement running alongside a sloppy, unfinished "in-ground half-pipe" which conveniently doubled as a storm drain for most of the year. When the moss grew fatter and the salt-watery sludge at the bottom grew thicker, the youth dubbed the council’s failed skate park the 'Storm Drain' and turned their attention to other, not so family friendly activities. Fueled by a toxic cocktail of boredom, miscreant behaviour and blind passion, The Solemn Prophets found themselves constantly battling each other. They started laying down rough, amateur tracks on tape-decks and computers and their competitive mannerisms ensured a natural progression of improvement. The Vexed has come a long way since the days where he struggled to fit into a community that did not make sense to him. Now based in the city of Townsville and continuing to work closely with SkRATCH HOUND Productions, Vexed’s truthful, subtle larrikinism has earned him the much deserved respect of fans and peers and is set to drop his debut album 'Dead to the World' soon. A far from normal upbringing is something Vexed will not forget and uses as inspiration for all of his music. Staying in tune with nature, Vexed often heads back up north to a place that awakens all of his senses. With strong eucalyptus bush smells, intense constant winds and billions of stars overhead, Vexed admits that: "there is no place like home!"
